The Beary Good Sentences Board helps students learn how to form complete sentences by connecting visual prompts with spoken and written language. Students look at a photo card, say a sentence about what they see, and place a cardboard gem in each divot on the board—one gem for each word in the sentence.
This simple but powerful process helps students practice grammar, sentence structure, and word order while staying actively engaged.
When a complete sentence is formed, students are rewarded with a bear token placed in the cubby above the divots—because that was a “beary good” sentence!

"The picture cards and gems make it fun and easy to teach sentence structure—my students are more engaged and more confident!"
— K–3 Special Education Teacher
Show the student a picture card and ask them to create a complete sentence about it.
For each word in the sentence they say, have the student place a gem in the divots, starting from left to right across the board.
If needed, you may model the sentence first and give the student the exact number of gems to match the correct number of words.
Example: If the student says, “He playing a game” (missing the word is), you can model:
“He is playing a game.”
Then ask the student to try again and place a gem for each word.
Each time the student creates a complete, “beary” good sentence, place a bear in the cubby above the divots as positive reinforcement.
"My students light up when we use the Beary Board! It’s a simple, effective way to help them build complete thoughts and stronger sentences."
